Score Academy Online is an approved vendor in the Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA) marketplace for our Asynchronous courses. Your child learns at their own pace with a Cognia-accredited school, and you pay per course from your TEFA balance.
TEFA is the state's education savings account program. Texas deposits education funds into an account the parent controls, and you spend them in the program marketplace on approved expenses, including online courses like ours.
The Texas Legislature created TEFA through Senate Bill 2 in 2025 and provided $1 billion to launch it in the 2026-27 school year. The Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts oversees the program, and Odyssey runs the parent portal, the accounts and the marketplace where families pay schools and vendors.
Any Texas child who is a U.S. citizen or lawfully present, and eligible to attend a Texas public school, can apply with no income limit. More families applied than the first year's funding could cover, so the state awarded accounts by priority tier and placed the rest on a waitlist.
Your child's award depends on the setting you choose. Texas limits the private school setting to schools located in Texas, so families who build their child's schooling around Score Academy Online use the homeschool and other setting.

Score Academy Online holds full Cognia accreditation as a K–12 private school, and your child's Asynchronous courses come from that accredited school.

Texas families who want live teachers, or recorded lessons with teacher chat, can enroll in Synchronous or Flex and pay tuition directly. These two packages are not approved for TEFA funds at this time.
A typical full-time student takes 6 to 8 courses a year, which costs more than the $2,000 homeschool account. You can use TEFA funds for part of the load and pay for the rest directly. Admissions can build a plan around your balance.
Yes. Score Academy Online is an approved vendor in the Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA) marketplace, and TEFA funds can pay for our Asynchronous courses in elementary, middle and high school. You buy the courses in the marketplace through your Odyssey parent portal, using your child's account balance. Our Synchronous and Flex packages are not approved for TEFA funds at this time, so Texas families who choose them pay tuition directly.
The amount depends on the setting you choose. A child enrolled in a participating Texas private school receives $10,474, and a private school student with an IEP on file with the Texas Education Agency can receive up to $30,000 based on that IEP. Students who are homeschooled or not enrolled in a participating private school receive $2,000 a year. Families who build their child's schooling around Score Academy Online courses fall under this $2,000 homeschool and other setting.
At our approved prices, $2,000 covers four elementary Asynchronous courses at $415 each ($1,660) or three middle or high school Asynchronous courses at $515 each ($1,545). You can spend the remaining balance on other approved expenses, such as curriculum or tutoring, or let it roll over to next year. A typical full-time student takes 6 to 8 courses a year, and you can pay for courses beyond your balance directly.
No. Texas requires participating private schools to be located in Texas, accredited by an organization recognized by the Texas Private School Accreditation Commission or the Texas Education Agency, and in continuous operation for at least two school years. Score Academy Online is an online school based in Florida, so it takes part in TEFA as an approved vendor of online courses. Families who choose us as their child's main school use the homeschool and other setting.
Yes. You can enroll with Score Academy Online and pay tuition directly while you wait. TEFA funds can only pay for courses once your child has an active award with money in the account, and the program does not reimburse families for costs they paid themselves. If your child does not receive an award this year, the state says you will need to reapply during a future application cycle.
The state has not announced dates for the 2027-28 application window yet. The first window ran from February 4 to March 31, 2026, and is now closed. You can join the 2027-28 interest list and sign up for family updates at EducationFreedom.Texas.gov. Participants in good standing do not need to reapply each year and only confirm that they want to continue.
A child can apply if they are a U.S. citizen or lawfully present in the United States, live in Texas and are eligible to attend a Texas public school, charter school or public pre-K program. There is no income limit to apply. When applications exceed funding, state law sets the order. After the first year, siblings of participating children come first, then new applicants, then former participants who left for a public school. Within each group, children with a disability in households at or below 500% of the federal poverty level come first, then households at or below 200%, then between 200% and 500%, then at or above 500%.
Approved expenses include tuition and fees for a private school, a higher education provider or an online educational course or program, plus textbooks and instructional materials, required uniforms, private tutoring, academic assessments, transportation to approved providers and educational therapies not covered by insurance or government benefits. Computer hardware and software count too, capped at 10% of the year's award. You cannot use funds to pay a family member, and the program does not allow cash withdrawals.
No. The 10% cap covers technology purchases such as laptops, tablets, monitors, printers, calculators and software programs. Online classes are a separate marketplace category and are not on that list, so the cap does not limit how much of your balance goes to Score Academy Online courses.
Yes. Money left in your child's account at the end of the school year carries forward as long as your child stays in the program. Participation ends when your child graduates from high school, enrolls in a Texas public or charter school, moves out of Texas or is no longer eligible to attend a Texas public school. When the account closes, the remaining money returns to the state.
No. TEFA participation ends when a child enrolls in a Texas public or charter school in a way that counts toward that school's attendance funding. The program is for families who educate their children outside the public school system, through a private school or homeschool.
